Chardonnay is certainly not an unknown grape variety. But, however well known it may be to everyone, it is difficult to give a precise and unambiguous picture of it. Because if the base is always the same, the environment where it is grown, its climate and soil, as well as the technique with which it is vinified, can give rise to extremely different wines. A master of versatility, one might say. In this case, Jermann harvests his Chardonnay in early September, when the aromatic ripening is complete but the grapes still have a nice natural acidity. Super-traditional vinification in the cellar, the wine is then left to mature on the lees, in steel tanks, for about six months and a few months in the bottle. In the glass, one thus discovers a wine characterised by a beautiful bright straw colour with greenish highlights, an intense, fruity and slightly aromatic bouquet. The same pleasant sensation of richness and softness also characterises the taste. In the mouth, in fact, the natural aromas of the vine are enhanced even more. Good today, this Friulian white is perfectly capable of waiting a few years in the cellar, waiting for the right occasion. Perfect as an aperitif, on the table it goes well with fish, shellfish and vegetable creams.

Jermann is a guarantee. A guarantee of quality and continuity. This is demonstrated by this label, which has been produced uninterruptedly since 1974. Friuli DOC Pinot Grigio, this Friulian white has received excellent reviews since its first vintages. Starting with the one written by Gino Veronelli, in 1975, who went so far as to predict a great success for this label. A prediction, we can say today, that was definitely right. Harvested in September, the grapes are vinified partially in white. The wine is then left to mature on the lees in steel tanks for about six months and a few months in the bottle. It has an intense straw-yellow colour, with a slight antique pink nuance. The bouquet is intense, broad and fruity, with excellent persistence. In the mouth it is decidedly dry and soft. Harmonious and well supported by a full body. It goes well with fish soups and grilled seafood. Excellent with mushrooms, prataioli and porcini mushrooms.

The first vintage of Red Angel dates back to 1988. Its name refers to the intense red colour of the Pinot Noir grapes. It is produced by the Jermann winery, one of the most important wineries in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, known for its strong environmental awareness and use of organic farming practices. The base, as mentioned, is the typical Pinot Noir, originally from Burgundy, but which in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, as in Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto, has found an ideal habitat that allows it to express itself at its best and give life to wines of great character. Red Angel is made from grapes that are harvested by hand, to ensure a good selection already in the vineyard. Once in the cellar, they are then vinified in the traditional way. After malolactic fermentation, the wine then matures for 12 months in French oak barrels. Bright ruby red in colour, the nose presents a complex and articulate bouquet, with notes of red and dark fruit, such as raspberry and blackberry, as well as flowers and sweet spices, such as pepper and nutmeg. In the mouth, however, the wine is elegant and harmonious, with a good balance between acidity, tannins and structure. The finish is long and persistent. Undoubtedly one of the best expressions of Pinot Noir from Friuli, Red Angel is an extremely versatile wine that can be enjoyed on many occasions. On the table it goes well with main courses of white meat, but also with tasty fish, cheeses and cured meats.

Originating in Germany, Riesling is a very versatile grape variety that lends itself to being vinified in various styles. Jermann's Afix is made from pure Riesling Renano grapes from vineyards in the Collio region. Dedicated to Alojz Felix, the young and eclectic son of Silvio Jermann, it is made by hand harvesting and traditional vinification. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine then matures for 10 months on the lees in steel tanks and a few months in the bottle. For bottling, the winery has decided to go for closed bottles with Stelvin model screw caps, to keep the fragrance and organoleptic qualities of the wine intact. In the glass, it has a beautiful bright straw yellow colour with light greenish reflections. The nose is surprising for its intense and persistent perfume, slightly aromatic and characteristic of the vine, with unmistakable notes of ripe fruit. In the mouth, however, it has a dry, fresh flavour with great balance. Velvety texture and lively backbone. A wine of great versatility, it is good today but not afraid to spend some time in the cellar. If stored well, it will quietly evolve for a few years. Excellent as an aperitif, it goes well with vegetable creams, shellfish, baked fish.

DOC Collio, this little jewel of the Jermann house has been produced 'only' since 2006. Until that year, in fact, the winery used the precious Piccolit harvested in the blends of other wines. The label, very different from those to which the beautiful Friulian winery has become accustomed, depicts an interior of country hospitality. After all, what we have here, in a 0.375 bottle, sealed with a Stelvin stopper, is one of the last pleasures of the earth. A sweet but balanced nectar, obtained (with no little effort) through natural drying. First on the vine and then on trellises, to increase the concentration of sugars and other aromatic substances. Brilliant, bright golden yellow, the nose is rich and enveloping. Memories of cooked apples, honey and candied fruit, with hints of sweet spices and minerals. In the mouth it is sweet but balanced, with great harmony and long persistence. A meditation wine par excellence, it goes well with biscuits and fruit cakes as well as spicy or blue cheeses. Good today, it is not afraid to mature in the cellar. Even for 10 years. The important thing is not to waste it!

This is one of the good wines offered by the Jermann family winery. We are talking about the classic Traminer Aromatico, harvested in this case in the winery's vineyards that are rooted in soils composed of marl and sandstone, belonging to the flyschoid formation of the Eocene epoch. A unique soil, typical for Collio, and responsible for the production of wines with great character and personality. The first vintage was produced back in 1974, and the harvest is again carried out manually in September. In the cellar, vinification is traditional and accurate and, at the end of processing, the wine is left to mature on its lees, in steel tanks, for about ten months. This is followed by bottling and a further resting period in the cellar. It should be noted that the wine is only offered with a screw cap, in order to keep its fragrance and organoleptic qualities intact. In the glass it has a beautiful, rather intense and brilliant golden straw colour. The bouquet is intense but delicate, aromatic and fruity. In the mouth, it proves to be a pleasantly dry wine with good body and great balance. The finish is slightly bitterish, a typical characteristic for this wine. It goes well with grilled fish and unripened cheeses. In season, also try it with a classic asparagus risotto.

An image of a double-headed eagle has been added to the label since the 2004 vintage. It derives from one found by the family on an old barrel belonging to great-grandfather Anton, and represents the Austro-Hungarian origins of Jermann. Vinnae, first vintage 1983, is a Ribolla Gialla (for the most part), created to celebrate the birth of the second son Michele and the hundred years of work and dedication to the vineyard and wine of five generations of the family. The grapes come from estate vineyards located on hilly terrain, typical for the region. Vineyards facing east and south, where the Ribolla grapes reach full ripeness in September. Harvested by hand, after traditional processing the wine is left to mature on the lees in steel tanks for about six months. Then, after bottling, it rests a few more months in the cellar before going on sale. In the glass it has a beautiful, bright, pale straw-yellow colour. On the nose, the scent is mainly fruity, but also mineral and elegant, even in its peasant straightforwardness. In the mouth, however, it is pleasantly dry, fresh and savoury. Ribolla, like Riesling, another great protagonist in Friuli, is one of the wines with the most marked acidity. Medium-bodied, it is an ideal white to serve as an aperitif. On the table it goes well with seafood hors d'oeuvres and fish-based first courses. Great drinkability and freshness.
