Brand: Firriato

That Sicily is a paradise for wine, we are certainly not the first to say. This is well understood by tasting wines produced here from international grape varieties. Wines, that is, that can easily be compared to others produced in other parts of the world. The result of the comparison rarely disappoints. Sicily always (or at least very often) has an edge. This is further confirmed by this Altavilla della Corte, a pure Cabernet Sauvignon proposed by Firriato of Trapani. Cabernet Sauvignon, a grape variety of Bordeaux origin, gives wines characterised by an incomparable softness on the palate. An ideal variety for the production of great reds destined for long ageing, it finds particularly fertile soil on the island in the heart of the Mediterranean. Harvested by hand during the second ten days of September, the wine undergoes traditional red vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and slow ageing in French and American oak barrels for about 7 months. The result is a red wine characterised by a beautiful intense ruby colour, with seductive notes of cherries, blueberries, blackberries and rhubarb, enveloped by intriguing hints of dark chocolate, juniper berries and tobacco. A rich, broad and elegant bouquet that only the best Cabernet Sauvignon is able to give.

Firriato Gaudensius Blanc De Blancs Etna Doc Metodo Classico - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75

Shipping: 6.9 GBP

Brand: Firriato
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

A perfect synthesis. Between an autochthonous vine and an international one, but also between two territories as far apart as Etna and the Trapani countryside. Born from these extremes is Gaudensius Blanc de Blancs, a classic method sparkling wine thought of by Firriato to give its many fans a bubble of great value, capable, if not of beating, at least of holding its own against the noble Champagne. Gaudensius is in fact the result of the vinification of Carricante and Chardonnay. The first grape is typical of the island and finds an ideal habitat on the slopes of Etna, the second is the expression of a cru from the Borgo Guarini vineyard, to adapt well to the delicate process of sparkling wine making. The refinement is prolonged for more than 30 months and the final result is a bubble of great personality, characterized by a goldish-pale straw yellow color. The nose is fresh, elegant and complex with notes of white fruits, acacia flowers, hazelnut and honey, enhanced by mineral sensations. In the mouth, however, it is delicate, elegant and concentrated. Characterized by an exceptional permanence on the palate and good aromatic persistence.

The Cavanera Etnea Estate is one of the latest acquisitions of the Firriato company in Trapani. A beautiful plot of land located on the northern slope of the volcano, where it enjoys a very special microclimate, perfect for growing vines. Soil rich in minerals and a beneficial temperature range between day and night contribute to the incredibly intriguing wines produced here. An example is this Cavanera Ripa di Scorciavacca, Etna DOC, characterized by an intense and refined bouquet of scents. Fruit of the union of Carricante and Catarratto, this wine is produced from a single vineyard, whose soil is particularly fertile due to the presence of a high concentration of nutrients that, in combination with agronomic practices, give the wine a strong and balanced character between acidity and softness and, above all, a potential for extraordinary longevity.

With over 30 years of production, Santagostino Rosso, a blend of Nero d'Avola and Syrah, is one of the most successful Sicilian reds on the national and international wine scene. The grapes in this case come from the Baglio Sorìa estate, owned by the Firriato company, where soils capable of retaining water ensure that the grapes ripen well, without ever going into water stress, even during particularly dry years. This, combined with optimal exposures and climatic conditions unique to the region, allow the fine Paceco estate to produce, year after year, a wine characterised by noble tannins and considerable anthocyanic charge. A red of exceptional drinkability and pleasantness, with an important capacity for ageing. Excellent right from the start, this Sicilian red is capable of evolving well in the cellar for several years. Well stored, in the dark and at the right temperature, we can uncork a bottle of Santagostino Rosso every time we have a tasty dish on our table, such as a traditional aubergine caponata or with a roast beef, slowly cooked for several hours.

Firriato "quater Vitis" Terre Siciliane Igt Bianco - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75

This wine is the brainchild of Firriato. The desire to give its many fans the opportunity to taste all of Sicily in a single glass. Quater Vitis, in fact, is a wonderful blend of four indigenous grape varieties, grown in different areas of the island, where each grape has the opportunity to give its best and express its full potential. Catarratto brings fruity and complex aromas, accentuated by the aromatic characteristics of Zibibbo. The elegance of Inzolia comes to their aid completed by the minerality of Carricante, which originates on Etna at an altitude of almost 700 meters above sea level in the Cavanera Estate. The result of this perfect synthesis is a wine characterized by a beautiful bright straw yellow colour, with marked greenish hints. The nose reveals a fine and complex bouquet, with fruity sensations reminiscent of medlar, orange, pineapple and mango, and floral sensations of orange blossom, elder and lime, but also lavender, thyme, ginger and flint. Hard to get bored. Each time you bring the glass closer to your nose you discover a slightly different nuance. It only takes a few minutes of contact with oxygen to discover a new nuance. Brand: Firriato
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

A blend of Catarratto, the most widespread indigenous white grape variety in Sicily, and Chardonnay, an international grape variety that has proven to be a perfect fit on the island. This is Santagostino Bianco, one of the most prestigious wines of Trapani-based Firriato. A wine of character, sophisticated and elegant, much of the credit for its success can be attributed to the particular endowment of mineral elements present in the soils of Baglio Sorìa, where Catarratto ripens to its best. In the cellar, then, the processes are accurate and the fruit of long experience, with the Chardonnay fermenting in barriques, acquiring complexity and depth. Straw yellow in colour, Santagostino Bianco presents a pleasantly variegated nose, with delicate notes of flowers and fruit that intersect with those of citrus. In the mouth, however, the Catarratto brings body, and the Chardonnay complements it with typical exotic fruit notes, softened and made more elegant by the passage in wood. An absolute champion on the international scene for over thirty years, Santagostino Bianco encapsulates the scents of the most authentic Sicilian character. For lovers of territorial pairings, this white wine pairs well with savoury dishes such as pasta with Trapanese pesto.

Firriato Charme Frizzante Terre Siciliane Igt Bianco 2023 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75

Shipping: 6.9 GBP

Brand: Firriato
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

Not a single variety, nor a traditional blend of two of the three typical grape varieties. This Charme, a white IGT produced by Firriato, is literally the result of a blend of several native white grape varieties and a few international varieties. This is how it is described, leaving it up to the imagination of each taster, or his or her experience, to recognize in this or that sensation the signature of one grape variety rather than another. The result, however, is definitely enjoyable. A sparkling wine, simple but not ordinary. A perfect glass for an aperitif but also to accompany a dinner of sushi with friends. In the glass it has a beautiful straw yellow color with slightly greenish reflections. On the nose gentle notes of wild flowers and broom, tropical fruit, mango and papaya, ripe banana and melon. But you just have to wait for a moment to discover clean memories of aromatic herbs, rosemary and bay leaves. In the mouth it is harmonious, agile and lively, with a pleasant, very satisfying acidic sensation that makes it extremely drinkable.

Firriato Quater Vitis Terre Siciliane Igt Rosso - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Svinando.co.uk
Brand: Firriato
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

Quater Vitis Terre Siciliane IGT Rosso is not a simple wine. It's a one-way ticket to a trip to the heart of the largest island in the Mediterranean. An unusual blend of Nero d'Avola, Perricone and Frappato grown on the Pianoro Cuddìa estate, in the Trapani area, with Nerello Cappuccio from the Cavanera Estate on Etna. Four different harvests, in order to bring out all the goodness of each variety, and four separate vinifications. Each wine is then aged in American and French oak barrels for a maximum period of 10 months. Also in this case the choice of different woods is not based on the winemaker's pure whim but a precise choice, since each wood brings a different woody note to the final wine. Compact ruby colour with lively violet hues, the nose reveals notes of red and black fruit with spices and chocolate. In the mouth it is defined juicy and soft. A nice natural tannicity is kept under constant control by a pleasant acidic component.

Bubbles, the good ones, in Italy are no longer the prerogative only of the historic regions, Piedmont, Lombardy and Veneto. Today, on the contrary, the bubbles that are most popular are those that have a touch of personality, usually given by the processing of indigenous grape varieties. As in this case. Saint Germain, in fact, is a Brut sparkling wine, proposed here by Firriato, which is the result of the encounter between Catarratto and Grillo. These two indigenous white grape varieties have contributed to the oenological success of Sicily. The curious name recalls 18th-century France, although this bubbly has decidedly Italian origins. In fact, it was born in the fertile lands of the Trapani countryside, in Borgo Guarini, a unique agricultural context. Freshness and minerality come together in harmony thanks to the sparkling process using the Martinotti method, in an autoclave, which succeeds in enhancing the rich aromatic notes of the two starting varietals. Brio and very pleasant drinkability for a bubbly that, we are ready to bet, will certainly not make us regret having gone on the safe side by choosing a traditional sparkling wine. To appreciate it at its best, let's uncork it nice and chilled, already at aperitif time. On the table, let's pair it with mouth-watering dishes such as the traditional fried fish dish.

It is enough to leave the coast of Catania and start climbing towards the top of the volcano to clearly perceive all the contrasts that make Sicily a magical and enchanting place. On one side the sea, blue and deep. On the other, an untamed vegetation that in summer fights with an increasingly extreme drought. Above, the white top of the mountain, often snow-capped, always surrounded by a thick blanket of clouds. All around, dark-colored ground. A land that you can tell has something special about it. Something that then, if you are lucky enough to taste a local wine, is also found in the glass. As in the case of this son of Etna, the Cavanera Rovo delle Coturnie, Etna DOC from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. It's hard to imagine a more volcanic blend than this. In the glass it has a beautiful, transparent and bright ruby red color. On the nose sophisticated notes of small red fruits, nutmeg and black pepper. A wine that smells of its smug volcanicity in the iron and mineral nuances. In the mouth it is full-bodied and pleasantly tannic. Of remarkable persistence, one sip is enough to make us feel like modern explorers discovering the mouth of the volcano.

Firriato "jasmin" Zibibbo Secco Terre Siciliane Igt 2023 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Svinando.co.uk
Shipping: 6.9 GBP

Brand: Firriato
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

The valorisation of native Sicilian grape varieties is, for the Firriato winery, one of its main objectives. And thanks to this Jasmin, it does so (great one might say) once again. Zibibbo vinified in purity, with a very particular style. From a grape historically destined for the vinification of sweet wines, Firriato obtains an intriguing dry white wine, where the richness of the aromatic bouquet is evident, giving a very pleasant drinkability. IGT Terre Siciliane, Jasmin reveals a bouquet that recalls the fragrances and scents of spring flowers and savoury marine notes from the sea. The large temperature variations between day and night, typical for the Baglio Sorìa Estate, a few kilometres from Trapani, favour the development of the olfactory components. Jasmin - as its producers suggest - is a wine that invites conviviality and the joy of being together. Perfect right from the aperitif, it has the power to make us fly (at least with our imagination) to the Sicilian coast. This is why the suggestion is to bring it to the table by choosing a typical combination for the region. Excellent, for example, with a rich fish couscous.

Firriato "altavilla Della Corte" Grillo 2023 - Country: Italy - Capacity: 0.75
Svinando.co.uk
Brand: Firriato
Category: Alcoholic Beverages

But how good are the autochthonous wines, whites and reds, grown in Sicily ‘ A lot, without a doubt. Like this Grillo, grown on the Borgo Guarini estate, which fully expresses the peculiarities of its terroir of origin. The hilly climate, with its greater temperature swings than in the coastal area, gives these grapes a richer and more intense aromatic dowry. Grillo, then, is a grape variety on the rise in Sicilian oenology that the Firriato winery makes the most of thanks to superbly careful processing. Once in the winery, the grapes are soft-pressed and quickly fermented at a controlled temperature. At the end of the transformation, then, the wine remains in slow maturation on its noble lees, or "sur lie", in stainless steel tanks for a period of no less than 3 months. Then, after bottling, it remains to rest in the cellar for about 4 months before being finally put on the market. Intense straw yellow, the nose is reminiscent of typical Mediterranean aromas, with notes of fresh and intense citrus fruits that meet with delicious nuances of almonds and melons. Delicately complex, it is a champion of aromaticity. To be uncorked, without hesitation, right from aperitif time. Difficult, if not impossible, to be disappointed!
